1.25 HR Credit | Competencies: Critical Evaluation | Intended Audience: Mid-Level
Workplace Application:
This session will separate employment law myths from reality and will give you the confidence you need to address common workplace issues.

Frequently, employees (and sometimes even HR professionals) rely on lore rather than the law in concluding what their “rights” are in the workplace. This entertaining and informative session will examine the most common employment law myths, half-truths, legends, and stories – and how you can deal with these misunderstandings in the workplace. This session will illuminate the issues surrounding at-will employment, including the viability of wrongful termination claims and whether an employee is really in a protected category. You will gain a thorough understanding of your obligations to employees in terms of wages, benefits and termination. We will also address the limit to which you should be concerned with employees' off-duty conduct, including their use of social media.
