This session will provide you with practical ideas, strategies, and lessons learned from re-building an HR function within an established organization.

NPR is a thriving 40 year-old media organization, reaching 26.4 million total weekly listeners for NPR programming and 17.5 million average monthly unique visitors for NPR digital platforms each week. As NPR evolved over four successful decades, much of the HR practices and approaches remained the same. This led to a 'personnel-style' support model, with many outdated and reactive tools, procedures and policies. Our goal was to transform the HR team and approach, from a reactive, transactional model to a proactive, strategic partner that propelled NPR into the modern and digital age. We achieved this by implementing an HR Business Partner model, implementing new HR technologies, and shifting the mindset of the HR organization. You will leave with an understanding how to lead transformative change in an established HR organization as well as practical steps in restructuring HR from an administrative function, to a strategic business partner.
