The session provides a case study drawn from a W.L. Gore department that implemented mindful leadership development strategies and practices.  This session is not about teaching you to be meditative nor is it about spirituality.  Instead it is about the rapidly emerging need for leaders at every organizational level to adopt practices that enable them to be highly effective in a constantly shifting and complex business landscape.   The presentation details one organization's desire to equip leaders with mindful leadership skills – enabling them to be more contemplative in the moment, more effective in rapidly changing environments, more adept at creating change, and better able to stretch people to elevated levels of performance.  You will gain practical and actionable strategies.

Gail Townsend


Dr. Gail Sacconey Townsend consults and teaches to the public and private sector, and is an organization development specialist at W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. She is committed to increasing the effectiveness of individuals, teams and organizations by engaging diverse people in creative and energizing conversations that achieve positive people and business results.
Gail is faculty at the University of Delaware and teaches in the College of Business in the MBA and Organization Change, Development and Effectiveness graduate programs.  Her work at W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc., includes working with business teams to achieve global, regional, and functional integration; establishing organization development curriculum for HR Generalists; and coaching and developing individuals, teams, and businesses to achieve their full potential.  Gail is also a passionate champion of the importance of corporate culture and the impact on individual, team, and business innovation.  


Rosaria Hawkins


Rosaria (Ria) Hawkins, Ph.D., President of Take Charge Consultants, has over 25 years of leadership development and consulting experience. She is a leading thinker on mindful leadership and organizations—focusing on strategies and techniques for sensing and responding to change in order to ensure long-term sustainability and success. Her research on mindful leaders and their approach to organizational change provides leaders with a flexible process for sense making and action taking in a turbulent and changing world. She has spoken about the skills and strategies involved with mindful leadership to groups that include coaches, business professionals, guidance counselors, and human resource executives.
