The hunt for talent has changed -- millions of recruiters now use social media to tap personal contacts and find top talent. While it's no doubt the hot way to find the next great employee, is it working any better than traditional recruiting tactics? How closely are job seekers paying attention to social media when it comes to finding employers, and are they extending their own search for positions on social platforms? And at the end of the day what player in the job market has the most power? HR, recruiting and social media experts Robert Hohman, Steve Boese, and  John Sumser give the inside scoop on how people should be using social media tools and apps to their benefit, and insight on ways companies and job seekers are utilizing these social media platforms and job boards.

Jeremy Langhans


Jeremy Langhans enjoys playing in the digital marketing space for recruiting! He has a deep expertise in strategic engagement platforms (sourcing, research, and social media) & applies his channel knowledge in attracting talent.  Jeremy currently leads Global Brand and Talent Attraction for Expedia.  Prior to joining Expedia, he was the program manager for Employment Brand and Channels at Starbucks.  He is honored to be a founding member of the steering committee of the Sourcing 7, a special interest group of the Northwest Recruiters Association where he fosters opportunities to network, influence and educate.  Jeremy started Social Media for Staffing at Starbucks in 2009 and in 2010 rolled out their Social Recruiting platform. He had the pleasure of owning 2 roadmaps, globally, within Talent Management at Starbucks. These included Digital & Social Media, as well as their Career Center and other major channels (i.e. LinkedIn).  A good example of his work can be found @starbucksjobs on Twitter.  Jeremy has consulted for companies like Microsoft, Cisco, Yahoo, and started his tenured career working at staffing agencies in the late 90's.  He views Global Brand as "just the guy who makes the final decision on how we show up in the market" and "a way to drive results through a candidate centric design methodology".  He views Talent Attraction as "the synergistic space where strategic talent sourcing / talent engagement collide" and "the systems that create more yeses to the business".

John Sumser


John Sumser is the principal analyst for HRxAnalysts and founder and managing editor of The HRExaminer Online Magazine. John's work explores the people, technology, ideas and trends that drive the evolution of the HR and Recruiting functions

Over his career John has routinely advised Human Resources, Recruiting Departments and Talent Management teams with product analysis, HR Technology, market segmentation, positioning, strategy and branding guidance. He is widely sought as an advisor to software companies that serve the Human Resources and Recruiting Industry. A liberal arts graduate at heart, Sumser learned to program using punch cards in the late 1970s. He was one of the first 1,000 certified Logistics Engineers. Graduate studies included Applied Behavioral Science (OD) at Johns Hopkins and the MBA program at Loyola of Baltimore. As a defense industry engineering manager, Sumser helped shepherd in total quality principles while managing R&D programs.

Just before he turned 40, Sumser moved his family from the heart of Maryland's farm country to the docks of Sausalito's houseboat community. In California, he ran the Point Foundation, published the Millennium Whole Earth Catalog and edited the Whole Earth Review. From there he launched interbiznet, the first firm to act as an independent analyst of online Recruiting. At interbiznet he helped guide the evolution of that industry over the course of fourteen years.

Today, Sumser runs both the HRExaminer and HRxAnalysts from the sleepy coastal town of Bodega Bay (best known for its birds).

HRxAnalysts recently published the 2012 Index of Social Technology in HR and Recruiting, an exhaustive study of the trends and directions of next generation technology. The HRExaminer averages 220,000 monthly page views and 50,000 unique monthly visitors.

Robert Hohman


Robert Hohman is co-founder and chief executive officer of Glassdoor, a jobs and career community, and a member of the company's board of directors. Before creating Glassdoor, Robert was most recently president of Hotwire, a leading discount travel site and division of Expedia, Inc. He was one of the original team members of Expedia, and was part of the executive team that took it public in 1999.

During his Expedia tenure, Robert also served as president of Classic Custom Vacations and executive vice president of Cruise & Packages for Expedia North America. In Expedia's early stage, he led the engineering team that built the cruise, hotel, and package booking systems. Robert started his career at Microsoft and worked as a software developer in a range of areas from Windows 95 to interactive television to online games.

He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science from Stanford University.

Steve Boese


Steve brings over fifteen years of experience in the implementation of complex human resources technology solutions for global enterprise clientele. Currently, Steve is a Co-Chair, HR Technology Conference for LRP Publications.

Steve is also a leading HR blogger and hosts both “HR Happy Hour” a popular radio programs dedicated to opening the lines of communication among thought leaders, practitioners and service providers in the global human resources field. He has also been invited to speak at numerous HR and industry events like the HR Technology Conference, the HR Executive Forum, and several regional SHRM events. Steve’s blog was selected as the number one Talent Management Blog by the editors of the Fistful of Talent in February 2010.
