Seeking Civility: Understanding & Eradicating Workplace Bullying

Research indicates up to 70% of adults report that they have been bullied at work. Targets experience anxiety, depression, burnout, and lower levels of job satisfaction. Abusive behaviors invite severe damaging consequences for the organization as well, including increased turnover, communication breakdown, reduced quality in work, and litigation. This presentation will define bullying as a group process and provide an understanding of damage caused, tools for sustainable culture change, and status of the law.

Catherine Mattice


Catherine Mattice is the President of Civility Partners, a training and consulting firm focused on helping organizations build positive workplace cultures. After dealing with a bully in an organization where she was the Director of Compliance and HR, Catherine began researching the topic of workplace bullying. Since 2004 she has published several articles, and appeared in the media as an expert in such places as USA Today, MSNBC, Inc. Magazine, NBC, ABC and FOX. Clients have included the US Marine Corps, Kaiser Permanente, and a variety of other private, public and government contracts. Catherine is past-president of ASTD, San Diego Chapter, an adjunct at National University and Brandman University, and heads a consulting group in the International Association for Workplace Bullying & Harassment.
