MEGA SESSION Employee Handbooks: Every Word Counts
Westgast Pavillion 2
1.25 SHRM PDCs, 1.25 HR Credit | Competencies: HR Expertise, Critical Evaluation | Intended Audience: Mid-Level
This session is designed to help you get the most of your employee handbooks while avoiding liability.
Employee handbooks can be powerful tools for communicating policies to employees and supervisors and administering employee relations; however, they also can also be a source of employment law liability. Weitzman will offer helpful advice on deciding what to include in (and delete from) your employee handbook. This session will also cover cutting-edge policies that you should consider adding or revising, including those involving: e-mail; voicemail; blogging; social networking; cell/camera phone and electronic communication policies; weapons and dress code policies; professional and courtesy conduct requirements; confidentiality policies; media contact rules; and many other workplace regulations. As some of these policies were the subject of the very recent NLRB General Counsel Report “Concerning Employer Rules,” you will get the latest and greatest on how non-union employers can stay out of handbook trouble with the NLRB.
