Workplace Application:
This session will examine evidence-based strategic talent management initiatives geared toward improving workplace programs for the aging workforce.

In the coming decades, a large portion of the workforce will reach retirement age contributing to a loss of talent in industry. One potential strategy for reducing the potential impact is engaging older workers possessing relevant transportable skills. This session will provide an overview of the SHRM Foundation’s and SHRM’s initiatives involving talent management for the aging workforce. In 2014, SHRM Foundation and SHRM will begin a program funded by the Sloan Foundation to conduct large-scale research of best practices for older worker talent management. As part of this effort, both organizations will also develop evidence-based tools and resources for employers of older workers and industries facing the potential talent drain. During this session, Schmit will provide an overview of initiatives and Alonso will provide overview of preliminary data from an employer survey of best practices and potential recruitment challenges expected in the future.
